Tesla Semi and Cybertruck were spotted with sets of lidar sensors on the front of the vehicles. They’re probably used to calibrate the brand new Tesla Autopilot equipment that’s installed on vehicles.
Several members of the Tesla community have noticed something interesting recently. @klwtts/Twitter has shared photos of Tesla Semi with lidar sensors mounted on the front. It was equipment from XenomatiX, which is clearly visible within the photos. It ought to be noted that the Texas manufacturer didn’t disclose any details about whether Semi is provided with Autopilot technology and what equipment is used for this. Nonetheless, it’s protected to say that the trucks can be equipped to drive autonomously, as that is strictly what Tesla’s ideology is about.
In response to a tweet with photos of the Semi, @dad_uff/Twitter shared photos of a Cybertruck with equivalent XenomatiX equipment installed within the front of the vehicle. The photo captured the moment a pickup truck rolls off a truck trailer. In each cases, the situation where the photos were taken shouldn’t be reported.

For the time being, we’ve got confirmed information that Cybertruck can be equipped with the brand new hardware 4 (HW4). Nothing is thought in regards to the equipment that can be utilized in Semi, nonetheless it may be assumed that this may also be recent HW4 equipment. Often, Tesla uses lidar sensors to calibrate its equipment to get as much data as possible and check fitment. Nonetheless, in delivering full self-driving of their vehicles, the corporate only relies by itself cameras, sonar, and radar, and doesn’t intend to make use of the expensive and sometimes inefficient lidar as equipment on its vehicles.
