Tesla selected Mexico as the brand new location for a manufacturing facility. Elon Musk and the President of Mexico will discuss Tesla’s investment within the country during a call.

Tesla has chosen Mexico as a location to expand its operations. The manufacturer will construct a factory here, although the precise location has not yet been disclosed. In reference to this development, it was said Friday that Tesla CEO Elon Musk will speak with Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador, the country’s top diplomat. Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said a date for the decision between Musk and López Obrador could be announced later Friday afternoon.

Earlier this week, Ebrard met with Rohan Patel, director of business development at Tesla. He shared the news via his Twitter account, announcing the meeting and adding that “excellent news” could be coming soon (translated from Spanish). The meeting was also attended by Eugenio Grandio, director of the market in Mexico.

The wait for Tesla to establish a producing facility in Mexico has been happening since last October after Elon Musk visited Nuevo León where he met with local officials. As well as, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador indicated last week that Tesla is considering two possibilities to settle within the country: within the north, in Nuevo León, or within the state of Hidalgo, near the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).
