Tesla invests greater than $5 billion in Mexico. The factory, which doesn’t plan to provide batteries, will create as much as 6,000 jobs, in line with a senior official.
At Wednesday’s Investor Day, Tesla will confirm that it’ll construct an assembly plant in Mexico. For this, the corporate even invited the Governor of Nuevo León Samuel García to affix the event. Nevertheless, the president of the country, Andres Manuel López Obrador, has already hinted clearly that Tesla intends to construct an assembly plant in Mexico and even shared some details related to the water supply.
The Mexican government said on Tuesday that Tesla has chosen the northern state of Nuevo León for its first Mexican factory. The investment will amount to greater than 5 billion US dollars, but more details about this can be revealed by Elon Musk on Wednesday. Officials said the factory will create 5,000 to six,000 jobs.
The factory in query is not going to produce batteries, so the variety of employees required is lower than at the corporate’s similar facilities world wide. Nevertheless, in line with officials, Tesla is considering making batteries in the middle of the country because it plans further investment.
”(Musk) is concerned about investing more in Mexico,” the president said.
He also noted that he discussed with Musk the federal government’s plans to develop the Isthmus of Tehuantepec in southern Mexico. López Obrador tried to interest Tesla in constructing a battery factory, saying that despite the indisputable fact that lithium is nationalized in Mexico, the parties can agree.
”I told him: ‘Lithium has been nationalized, but that doesn’t suggest we will not come to an agreement,’” he said.
Tesla selected Nuevo León for its factory due to border state’s proximity to the corporate’s Austin, Texas headquarters, in line with Deputy Foreign Secretary Martha Delgado. “It’s six hours away. This closeness was superb for them,” she explained.
