If you could have been waiting to see an electrical version of Volkswagen’s popular Tiguan SUV, the corporate is about to make your day. The German maker has revealed its plans to introduce a battery-powered version of the automobile in 2026, as German media outlet Handelsblatt reported.
Volkswagen shared at a headquarters council meeting that the electrical Tiguan shall be unveiled in 2025. Production will follow in 2026 on the automaker’s essential plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Sources that attended the meeting said the EV shall be based on an upgraded version of the MEB architectures, dubbed the MEB-Plus. The platform will first power a planned electric Volkswagen Golf.
No specifications are known yet, however the Tiguan EV will likely use a brand new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This is predicted to charge as much as 200 kW, higher than the ID.4’s 175 kW. Nevertheless, the bottom version may charge slower than that, as with the ID.4, whose base version can only receive as much as 118 kW.
